Volunteering at Mackenzie Health means more than strengthening university applications; instead, it is making a difference in your community while also experiencing the healthcare field. You gain the opportunity to help and support the lives of patients, visitors, families, and even the hospital staff.

Mackenzie Health’s main goal for their volunteers is to improve the patient experience. This means to welcome visitors, assist with registration and directions, and provide the best support possible for others. These responsibilities can be done through the variety of roles offered, including Critical Care Support, Hospital Elderly Life Program, Hospital Operations Support, and more.

It is important to consider your truest commitments and passions for healthcare and the Mackenzie Health volunteering program. Volunteers should be able to demonstrate professionalism and leadership, show their compassion and empathy to others, are reliable, and can provide excellent service and inclusivity to all. Additionally, you must commit to the full length of the program selected (either year-round or summer program), and one 2-4 hour shift per week. Mackenzie Health expects students and adults to be able to balance their schedule with their volunteer placement, even during heavy workloads and exams.

To apply, students must complete the online application provided through the Mackenzie Health Volunteer Portal. Once submitted during the given period and before the deadline, you must wait 4-7 weeks to receive a virtual interview if selected. Finally, you must complete the required screenings and courses before beginning volunteering.

Whether you’re a student exploring a future in healthcare, building new skills, or someone who simply wants to help others, then Mackenzie Health’s volunteering program is the one for you.
